Not a trick but a basic question on stance when turning

I just have a basic question for you guys about turning. Say you are going in a straight line and then want to do a quick 180 turn lets say to the left and go back the other way. How do you place your feet?

Is there a "proper" way to do it or just whatever feels comfortable?

I usually ride left foot forward right foot back, which feels more natural when I'm riding but it would seem to me that if I wanted to go from a straight line into a left handed turn, I should switch my feet to right foot forward left foot back.

So for free riding its mostly personal preference?

The reason I am asking is because I have been practicing 180's and like I said I ride left foot forward most of the time (both feet in the back/holds otherwise). When I try to do a quick 180 to the left side, sometimes it will work but probably 40% of the time the rear of the ski will come right out from under me like a rug getting pulled out from under your feet. I was thinking that possibly standing right foot forward would help with that problem (or maybe it won't and I'll just go in face first when the back end comes out lol).

Also another question, My ride plate has 2 very small "runners" if you will on the bottom that stick down maybe like a 1/4" or so. would grinding them down and making the bottom of the plate totally flat free up the rear of the ski at all?

That should make it a little looser. I don't think thats your problem though.

one of your feet has to be in front while doing 180. This will allow you to unglue the pump and actually turn without subbing the back of the ski.

Yea, I've got one in front when I'm trying them. I'm just wondering if it helps to have a certain foot forward depending on the turn or if its preference. Like I said its probably me, sometimes I can get them and sometimes I just lose it :( but I only get to ride like maybe once a week if that so I don't get a whole lot of riding time in.

Maybe I don't have the proper technique w/ the throttle. I'll be going straight, let off the gas a little, get up over the chinpad, crank the bars left and pin it to spin it around....
