Total Newb here... I haven't ridden a stand-up ski since the late 90's and now I'm picking up a completely stock 1990 550sx Tomorrow after work. It's not currently running, seems to be getting a weak spark on only the rear cylinder. My buddy said that on a fully charged battery it will try to start for a second then it dies and the battery is dead. I watched him try to start it with a charger on 50Amp and it kicks over but won't start and run. Then I read on here somewhere that you should never hook up a charger while it's connected to the ski... I'm assuming that the electronic box has issues like a blown coil or voltage regulator... I won't really know much more about it until I tear into it. I'm hoping it's not a bad stater due to the price I'm seeing them go for on eBay.
Any advice on where to begin? I'm new to working on them. Is there a preferred shop where everyone gets replacement/aftermarket parts for these things? Once I get it running, are there any common weaknesses that I need to address before I put this thing in the water?
