The foam you are looking at is a marine closed cell polyurethane from the factory. It is not the open spray foam from Home Depot. Stay clear of that stuff, it'll absorb water like a sponge. Even the closed cell 2 part foams for marine use will absorb water eventually when submerged in it. Clear it all out if you are looking to open your tray up, and fill it ideally with EPP foam 1.9lb density, or if you don't want to spend the money on the good stuff you can use EPS from Home Depot. Though it is not gas or solvent proof and is more brittle than EPP. A marine two part foam from US Composites (2lb density) can be used above the bond line if desired.
