Well the other day I was going to swap props between two pumps I have was taking a good prop off a pump on a screwed up stator and putting on a good stator. The good prop came off the bad stator with a little heat and a little elbow grease. The other one will not come off heated it so much the prop turned colors. It turned a couple turns then stoped like it had red loctite on it. Heated it more and it will not come off. Used a 8' pipe and broke my vise in half. I ended up bending the drive shaft trying. Is there any way to get the drive shaft off without taking the prop off. And any other ideas on how to get the prop off would be appreciated. Yes I know it is reverse thread. Sorry for being so long winded.

I thought about that section to put it too also, but it was back in an era of my slow-slow internet connection....ah but those days are gone! Thought it would help the man here see what happens when you get a stuck wheel and have to pull out the angle grinder with the cutting blade on it.

I havent got to it yet I am putting it off as log as possible prob gonna do it today. Was thinking of using an air body saw (mini saw zall) I'm gonna try and slide the blade behind the prop and cut the shaft right behind it. Best case scenario I am gonna try cut the shaft at both ends and drill it out so I can save the prop. Not really planning on this working but I can dream right? I'll post pics when I'm done.

I went and took the blades off first to get them out of the way. Then I went to work on the body of the impeller - remember there is actually 2 sections to the body, the outer "cone" and the inner (and much thicker) part that is actually threaded onto the driveshaft.

When I got done, I found the driveshaft to be galled on two consecutive threads. That was not acceptable for me to try to put another brand new prop on it. I also found that I had slightly nicked the stator vein, but it was just under the impeller and not being a moving part wasn't a problem.

I ended up buying another good driveshaft and impeller, and used the old stator vein.

As regards the old driveshaft - I'm keeping my eye open for a really low-pitch prop in used but decent condition to just put on the shaft for the last time - I'd like to have a arm-yanker pump to play with when I want it.

Or, I am also thinking about cutting it off and making a intermediate shaft tool with it.

Unless, someone is interested in buying a straight driveshaft with a couple bad threads????

Here is waht I ended up with. After 4 cutting wheels and two sawzall blades. No damage to the stator section. Any body wanna buy a 13-16 Skat some assembly required?

I did that last year, my impeller would not come off so I had to weld my impeller wrench to it and use a 2ft pipe wrench to get it loose........heat did not even make it budge. Then I had to gring the wrench off..........PIA job.
