as some of you know i got a 95 fx-1 today that had water ingestion. i cannot get it to turn over. i have the exhaust, carb and head off. what is the best way to get the seized pistons out of the cylinders? I do have the cylinder unbolted but cannot get it to move.

thanks

Take a rubber mallet or a dead blow hammer and lightly start hitting the cylinder from side to side......... dont go crazy on it, just keep repeating it......... also, there should be some tabs sticking out where you can put a wedge (Screwdriver or so) and try to pry it lose, or you can get a wood wedge and use that and a hammer.............

thanks harrison. i was out there sweating my butt off and she came out and said you look like you are having fun. i told, i am glad one of us thinks so.

i got a block of wood and a hammer then a big screwdriver. i put the motor on it's side and placed a small block of wood on top of the piston and hit the wood while i pryed with the big screwdriver. the pistons won't even move on the rods. what happen was his wife fell off and the hood came off and sunk the ski. he then put the ski away with the engine full of water. needless to say the crank is gone. the rods barely move on the crank and the pistons barely move on the rods. i am glad i have a couple good cranks. hopefully i can just hone the cylinders and get new rings for the set of 61x pistons i have that are not rusted to hell.

From what you wrote, it sounds like you still haven't got it off yet. Focus on using a large screwdriver to pry up on the OEM slots between the cylinder and case. There are dowels between the cylinder and case, so after a few knocks with the mallet like BK suggested, you need to concentrate on the vertical motion.

i got it off, that is how i know the rods do not move on the crank and the pistons do not move on the rods. this must have had water in it since last year when his wife sank it. the ironic thing is, his last name is waterson. lol

holly crap!!!! :scared:

i pulled the intake and reeds out and it had a layer of mud under the reed cages. this thing must have sit on bottom for a while in the mud. i can only image what lukes motor will look like on the inside. i would post pics but my wife would have a cow if i brought that through the house. the only digital cam i have is my web cam so that won't be happening.:banghead:
