NC Surf riding?

Anyone on here ever ride any surf in NC? I used to go to Carolina beach, because you could drive on the beach, but don't know if your still allowed to launch right off the beach anymore. Does anyone know of any good places to ride surf? Preferably without a 3 mile ride around the intercoastal? Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I've ridden in NC many times, but I've got it easy since my parents and g'parents have homes right on the intracoastal waterway and the launch is a half mile from the inlet. I ride around the Lockwood Folly Inlet, which is between Long Beach and Holdens Beach. It's about 30 mins south of Wilmington. Not the greatest place to ride, since the surf conditions are kinda hit or miss, but hey it's surf.

The launch I go out from is Sunset Harbor, which is where my parent's home is. It's a public ramp.
