My cheap x2 trim set up

Im sure this has been done before but I would figure I would share what I put together over the weekend and maybe someone can get some ideas from what I made. So I'm a broke college student but I'm building my 86 x2 for the summer and the skis trim switch was seized up. So I really wanted the trim system to be on the handle bars like the nice AM skis but I didn't have big money to spend on a kit. So since the kawi engineers already did 95% of the work by routing the trim cable through the hull I figured it would be pretty simple to rig up a cable and a few small parts to make the stock trim system work off the handlebars.

Parts List:
-Short Throttle cable (not sure what ski this is off of but it was in my bins of parts and seems decent length for the application)
-Finger throttle lever (this i also had in my bin of parts, its a little small I will probably get a larger one for more leverage)
-1/8" metal plate
-3/16" spring (i think its 3/16" ill have to check on that)

I took the old aluminum plate that had the bolt pattern of where the old trim cable went through the top of the hull. I cut and drilled the 1/8" plate with an angle grinder to the size I needed, with a hole in the middle for the end of the throttle cable. ( yes in the picture the plate still needs to be trimmed and painted) After that I took the threaded sleeve from the trim cable and drilled a hole for the end of the throttle cable. This sleeve is brass and easy to drill, I will probably upgrade to steel at some point for piece of mind. Keep in mind both the plate and the sleeve need a small slice for the cable to pass through. Once this was drilled to the proper diameter I bolted it together. I lastly bought a long spring from ACE Hardware. I had to trim it but I put the spring on the trim shaft by the pump. This makes the static position of the pump in the up position and when the lever is pulled the nozzle is lowered. IMG_3826.JPGIMG_3829.JPGIMG_3831.JPG
