MSD enhancer/advance timing plate/retard module

Someone help me understand this setup....the timing advance plate advances the timing by 6 degrees, but there is a chance of detonation, w/ the enhancer. I could get a retard module, which, according to MSD retards through the entire RPM range. So w/ that module my timing will only be advanced by 2 degrees.(I'm using hi octane pump gas/ compression will be around 165-180 [not extreme])

There are some members out there that use the enhancer/ advance timing plate w/o the retard module, they have not detonated, and they say the setup works well.

Below are two contradictory statements from MSD, so WTF?

Your forgetting that Msd stuff was most likely written for racers - High rpm for long times compared to a freestyle ski - high rpms for extremely short times. This is why there are people running adv. static and msd enhancers with min. problems on here. also why some guys get away with 200+ psi with pump gas. I would talk to a rep. builder before you start going crazy with timing and whatnot.

the module pulls timing out progressively as the rpm climbs.you'll still get your bottom end advance but it will prevent detonation at upper mid and high rpm.
the advance will be more than 2 deg on the low end but it will be right near that at the higher end.

Group K helped clarify something. The stroker crank I'm putting in, already advances the timing significantly. So he strongly recommended not to use the advance timing plate.

Spoke w/ Harry @ Group K; He stated, "If you drop a stroked crank in a stock engine, it's will significantly advance the timing"

These guys sound like the most qualified techs I've spoke with, but what are other peeps opinions?

I can't afford a trial and error test, (another) builder co. said, " try it out, easy on the throttle, and if you hear pinging, and notice metal pieces on your plugs, it's detonating"

WTF?

also, your piston speed goes up in a stroker so timing needs to advance to make up for less combustion time.
most strokers do run better with more advance.
