MSD 800 SXR Total Loss Questions

I was wondering how and where the trigger plate mounted on an 800 SXR engine. I assume it mounts on the front of the case/flywheel cover like the stock stator? And i also assume that the fywheel is similar to a stock wheel...

I am planning on putting an 800 SXR engine into my 650 X2. On a 650 the stator mounts to the cases and the flywheel mounts overtop of them. There is nothing what so ever (except for the oil pump) on the case/flywheel cover.

I plan to have the SXR cases machined to accept a 650 stator. BTW does an SXR case have the places cast into the aluminum like a 750 does for a 650 stator?

Just asking. If you have pics of an 800 SXR TL setup, post up pics.

Would I be better off to just use the stock 800 electrics and say an enhancer, TBM wheel, or an Advent? I am just wondering so I can piece together the parts I need.

The MSD TL pick up plate mounts under the flywheel like a 650 igntion. There are some newer style TL's that mount to flywheel cover but you'd need to talk to JSU about them.
Yes, the sxr cases can be machined to except the 650 stator. I would not recommend doing that. Use the stock sxr igntion. If you want/need a better curve go with Advent.
What do you plan to do to your motor?

Well I don't have one currently, only piecing together what I will use. Here is my wish list:

ADA billet head with domes for pump gas
SXR Cylinders ported for freestyle
SXR Cases machined for 650 stator or MSD TL pickup - Should I have them ported?
Hot Rods crank or a true & welded stock SXR crank
Wiseco Pistons - Should I use another brand? I have had bad luck with Seizco's
V Force 3 Reed Cages & Reeds
R&D Intake Manifold for V Force Reed Cages
Dual 46 or 48 Full Spectrum carbs or a set of Novi, Riva Powerbomb, ect...
SJ Flame Arrestors for a SBN 44 or Proks depending on what type of carbs
Factory pipe exhaust manifold
Factory pipe Kawasaki 650 pipe or perhaps a Wave Blaster Limited chamber
Factoy pipe kawasaki 650 water box
MSD Total Loss ignition

Currently I have in my possesion:

- A FPP Kawie 650 X2 water box
- A FPP Kawie 650 head pipe and chamber (I am not sure whether it is a mod or limited)
- A Jetinetics Kawie 650 flywheel

- A Mariner Kawie 750/800 dual intake manifold for either Keihins or Mikunis
- A R&D Kawie 750/800 single Mikuni intake (Should I consider a single 46/48/50 SBN carb?)
- A pair of R&D 750/800 RAM Valves with reed stuffers
- A Pair R&D case stuffers that will only work with the RAM valves above
- A pair of stock 800 SXR reed cages and reeds
- A stock 750 flywheel, not sure which model
- A Coffman 650 Exhaust pipe and waterbox
- a Keihin blue 42mm carb
- Jet Sports 15.5 degree 650 prop
- 9/17 Skat 650 prop
- Two PJS 650 nozzles
- many different 650 X2 ride plates and intake grates

- I would like to get a Skat mag pump or atleats a TBM stuffer for the stock 750 pump I have.

- I have two completely stock Kawasaki 650 X2's. I plan on building a nice limited/freestyle 800 SXR engine for one of them. Years back I built a 750 but had problems seizing and cooking top ends. The first seize was my fault, I had lean jetting. The two after that, I have no clue what happend because I made the jetting so fat you would think it would never seize.

Who do you guys recommend for Kawasaki port work? Last time i had Group K do it and I disagree with some of his recommendations. I feel Harry is just in the market fo selling machine shop work and not parts. I want a nice pimp head, not a milled stocker.

I have a used 1100 ZXi engine and complete electrics. I am hoping to get an SXR to ride around on this year and in a year or two swap engines into my X2. Then I plan on rebuilding the tripple cylinder Kawie 1100 and putting it into the SXR. I have pics of it and it looks like it is made to go in an SXR!

I was just curious what you guys thought.

not sure if its cheaper or easer for you to build a sxr but it might be easer to run 750 cases and run a sxr cylinder on that .
my engine set up is small pin 750 cases that have been ported and a small pin 750 crank v force 2 reeds . i got a brand new sxr cylinder for some work i did for one off the local jet ski shops. i had an old mrd 750 non girdle billiot head that i have just had the domes machined on to match my set up .
that set up run really strong and was the cheapset way for me to go

Well my goal is to find a whole ski so I can take the engine out. Then eventually I can put my 1100 tripple back into the SXR.

Everyone on these boards talks about how great the small pin is for low end. Well a stock 94/95 X2 with the Kehin 40mm carb has 52 horsepower. A 750 Sx has 63 hp! The SXi had 72, the SXi Pro had 75 and an SXR has 80. The 750 ZXi had 85 hp. So I will take an SXR, SXi Pro or a ZXi engine please :)

The biggest thing for me is that you can get a 750/800 big pin crank from Hot Rods readily available.

Check out the tripple swaps :)
