The black ones are usually oem and the silver are aftermarket. Aftermarket are better. I am too uneducated to properly explain why but there are some good threads out there with discussions by those who know like SUPERTUNE.

depends. Some of the black 44's are the OEM carbs from the yamaha 760 motors. There are other Black 44's that are from Mikuni that are non OEM carbs. Then you have the silver/gold ones that are pure aftermarket. Maybe Supertune or somebody else will chime in.

thanks guys, i have a couple of black ones off a 61x motor and a 650 motor that are all black and then i have a few that are the unfinished color, trying to figure this out as one of my friends is trying to do a dual 44 setup, which one to use??

Check out the metering holes (for low/mid speed transition fuel delivery). Just above the low speed fuel outlet, above the closed butterfly.

Mikuni 44mm

OEM Black 760 = 2 small + 1 larger up top (3 holes total)

Am silver/dull = 4 small holes total

The black 650 carb might be different, what do they have?

And check the thread pitch on the adjustment screws, OEM = fine thread....AM = coarse thread.

....Just some differences besides color.

I have an older Hot Product catalog.

There are 3 kinds of 44's.

OEM Replacement

Black 44
Silver 44

On the riva site it list the silver as the "R" type.

The black 650 carb has 4 holes just like the aftermarket silver one. I heard that a pair of 650 carbs makes a decent set of 44's. Better than 760's at least.

I ran a set of 760 carbs on my first 828 stroker. I never got the pop-off right so you had to constantly blip it, otherwise if you rode around at one speed and then punched it, it would die.
