midshaft questions

1990 SN midhaft, needs new bearing and seals
1. do you have to remove the coupler or can it be done intact?
2. what is up with the grease cap halfway on the coupler (see below)?
3. when pushing the shaft back in, do have only the coupler side seals in place (like RN service manual shows) or all seals in place like clymer?
any other tips?

popped off the plastic cap, that was easy
looks like I can do it in an arbor press at work
any input on #3?

you can put the rear seals in, after the midshaft is pressed through the housing, if necessary.
