Mid-shaft bearing housing ??

Boris

The Good Old Days
OK, reading the many posts on here I have learned that there are 2 types.
Early square and all the rest.

But what is the difference ?
I would love to see them side by side to compare but all I have is the old style.

Since I have an older square nose 650 what would I have to do to convert to the newer style housing ?

My current bearings are on their last legs and I'm hoping they will hold up until I get my 62T ready.

I would hate to rebuild the one I have only to find out that I can put a newer one in there or that it won't work with the 701 so I'd rather ask.

90-93 is one bolt pattern and 94-present is another style.
The 90-93 did not have a nipple for greasing the bearing cavity.
I believe the short shaft on the 90-93 is smaller in diameter.

The wifey's 93 SJ has the old style bolt pattern housing and it has a grease fitting. As far as the 701 T motor goes, I have a full limited 82.5mm T case with a B pipe and B1 mod chamber with dual 44s. The original midshaft is working fine with no problems. Just put new bearing and seals in the original one and run it if the rubber surround is in good shape.

If it has a grease fitting, I am pretty sure it's not a 90-93 SJ housing. There is a Raider (?) housing that will bolt right up and has a grease fitting.

matt, i know the WSM '90-'93 housings have a tapped hole for the grease fitting.

the OEM '90-'93 ones, that ive seen, dont.

The grease fitting is what got me thinking about this.

Last weekend we installed a complete mid-shaft assembly into my friends 91 SN that the seller claims came from a 96 RN.
It did have a grease fitting on it.

I'll look at it today and write down the part number, wonder what it originally came off of.

If it bolts up to a 91 hull, it did not come froma 96.

Charlie, thanks...I didn't know that. I was referring to OEM.

How are those WSM setups? Worth the money?

Just got the numbers from the housing with the grease fitting that bolted right up.

YANAHA JD-2
6R7 522601

Tried searching the part number but nothing is coming up.

Could it be a Blaster part ??

6r7 is like 6m6 (or 90-93 in this case). the assembly isnt from a 96+ but the shaft, itself, could be.

i havent had any issues with the WSM housings.... and trust me... ive been watching them like a hawk!

OK, so any guesses as to what 6R7 comes from.

The thing bolted right up and has a grease fitting on it.

I know the grease fitting isn't for lubricating the bearings, it's there to help keep water out.

Still, since I will need to replace mine soon it would be nice to get one with the fitting.

come to think of it, some oem 6r7 housings did have grease fittings on them. the plate that holds the actual fitting bolts to the cases with the 2 rear intake bolts.

That is what must be on the wifes 93 SJ with a grease fitting. As far as I know it is the original, I am the second owner and I knew the first and I don't think it was ever changed.

Like I said...if it fits a 90-93 hull, has a grease fitting, and is OEM, it came off a raider or something like that.

I think I did....I have a tough time remembering things further back than 24 hours.

I guess that's one reason why I have fun going around in circles with WAD.
