just curious how many other states u guys are in require it?....... When i was 14 i took a boater safety course (parents made me because we owned a boat and i wanted to take it out by myself........ amazing to hear isnt it? parents......... that that acted proactivly and were responsible as opposed to alot of the ones today who mostly just kinda wait until their kid gets hurt without a license then sues someone for not making them have their child go through a license class..........) anyways i found out a bit ago that they now require a license for ALL AGES to ride a jetski (sit down or standup) ....... anytime anyplace..... if your in control of one you need to be licensed......... im thinkin my boaters safety course covers it but i have to check into it......... anyhow was just curious what other states are like this?

New York requires a coast guard approved boater's safety course, and you must carry that card with you along with your registration. When I moved to Alabama, they required it also, but they put a class on your license like they do with a motorcyle. They used my NYS course so I didn't need to take anything additional

So check with your state to see... sounds like your course will cover it.

NJ requires all BOATERS (used to just be PWC riders) have a certificate showing completion of the NJ Boating Safety Course (8 hour course). Must be 14 to operate a boat, 16 to operate a PWC. Boaters who can reasonably claim they have 100 hours of boating experience can attempt to test out of the course once, but that's it. Also, to ride non-tidal water (lakes, rivers, etc) you must have a boating endorsement on your drivers license (basically the "NJ Lake Tax" since you don't need to do anything but show your safety certificate and pay a fee).
