Lateral release (knee)

Anyone ever had a lateral release done on their knee? I started doing physical therapy right after my last knee twist / ankle sprain in Daytona but it hasn't done jack but make things worse. I'm finally going in Friday for surgery to "release" a ligament and get my patella to slide back where it belongs. The docs say I'll be walking again within a week easy but that I shouldn't ride for six weeks. :irked: It's also supposedly only 90% effective... :dunno:

Anyone have experience with this good or bad? I'm torn about getting my hopes up...

Here is some info I found. I have heard it is quite successful nowadays with a good surgeon.

Does a lateral release help with knee pain?
A lateral release is quite successful when performed in the right patient. For a number of years, doctors were performing this procedure too commonly, and some patients did not find relief from their symptoms. As we have gained experience with this problem, surgeons have become better at selecting which patients are likely to benefit from a lateral

Pete, nah been trying to get better with phys therapy, chiro, massages, meds, and all that first. Then it took three weeks to schedule after I made my decision :banghead:

tursi, thanks for the input. I've read online a lot but many sites say full strength is not achieved for six months to a year and not even to try and push it til ten to twelve weeks. Then again doc says six weeks and that I can start training earlier. :dunno:

I haven't had a release done, but I do have a torn ACL and had Arthroscopy on it and my suggestion is to definitely not to try and push it. Better to take the time and strengthen it up then rush back!!
