Knee Brace Recommendations

Crashed yesterday and tweaked my knee pretty good. Looks like nothing major, but stiff as hell today. I've never had knee injuries, but this was a wake up call. Any recommendations on knee braces?

I have a Donjoy and CTI knee braces. Both were prescribed to me after my right ACL reconstruction. both cost me less than $100 with insurance.
The Donjoy fits better over my wetsuit. The CTI seems to give more support.

Yep. I HAVE to wear mine for any type of sports. No problems with it so far, but it's only been flatwater. I'll let you know how it really works next month in Pismo.

shouldnt be too much different. if anything, it would b worse for flatwater. might have to look into a set....

I hope not. The only thing I'm still a little worried about is the impact from the higher landings. It'll be just over 6 months, post surgery, when I'm out there, so I'm still not 100% yet.

I think the EVS type braces would work great for preventing injury, but I don't know if you could get insurance to pay for them.

How about under your wetsuit? I haven't tried it yet, but I'm hoping it will be OK under it. Less chance to blow a strap on the brace.

I use Astrisks also. And yes, I do use them on the ski.

Some doc have a real tough time prescribing knee braces for people. they would rather you just stop doing what is giveing you the pain.

your kidding right. have you SEEN how these things are made?
Yep. I have a DonJoy. What I meant by blow a strap is to have the velcro pop loose. I've only ridden twice with it and had the bottom velcro pop loose twice. It's a brand new brace so the velcro isn't worn out or anything. I've just caught it on the back of the tray as I was remounting and pulled it loose.

I've never tried it under my wetsuit. I had a oversleeve which came with my CTI. It's a neoprene sleeve that goes over the brace. It helps but made it very bulky. I now just wrap the bottom and top strap with duct tape so the vecro doesn't come un-done.
I have a friend that wears a shorty wetsuit than puts his brace on than wears a larger full wetsuit over it. again I don't like how that restricts my movement.

I simply use these cheap ones on both of my knees under the wetsuit and replace them as needed.
They have steel springs in the sides, but looks like they are holding well in the salt water.

I dont have any velcro on mine. they wouldnt be worth a damn if they did.

they are byfar the best that ive tried i have had a set of astricks they got stolen out of my trailor , i had a set of evs they broke, then i got my CTI2's
they offer great support. If you break them you can have parts the next day and fix them yourself but haven't ever broke them ive crashed pretty damn hard a couple of times and they are fine they are deff worth it cause trust me u dont want to blow your knees out its not fun

I have tried 3 diff. braces.blown acl ,lcl +mcl from mx. i now have a cti2 which has been good for years . great stability and protection in almost any sporting situation.also have a townsend which blows away the cti2 in fit and comfort.i wear it over my wetsuit or under mx pants w supplied under sleeve. health ins. paid for all 3 with a written prescription from my ortho dr.each one $1500-2000.with todays technology seriously contemplating surgery again and shed the braces
