Well, seemed like a nice day to go for a ride, my friend Lou called and asked if I wanted to go. So I loaded my skis, gassed up, went to his shop, gassed his up, both skis started fine so we were ready to go. I look in his hull and see these pieces he is holding in his hands.

Fogive me for asking the obvious, but how the hell do you shear a coupler like that and not know it?

I mean, that kind of damage does not happen putting the ski on a trailer at the end of the day.:banghead:

Well this ski was sitting for a year without being ridden. He owns a business and doesnt get much time to ride. Last time we were out in the ocean, he tailed in and hit bottom, breaking the battery tray and battery. He took it out once since then and it ran fine he says. Then today when I looked at it I found this. I was with him when he hit bottom and it wasnt broken then but I wasnt with him the time he rode after that, I'm just going by what he said. The motor isnt loose at all and the prop spins freely

Wow, if he tail stabbed it that bad I would be prepared to pull that midshaft. It usually drives it back and causes the gap to be way too big. Been there done that:banghead:

Heres some updated pics of the motor being removed. Does it look like the midshaft is sitting too far back from the pics? until we get the new part, its hard for me to tell since this is the first time doing this for me.

What I've done in the past (to remove the coupler stub) is to cut it off with a small cut-off disc as found with a Dremel. Carefully cut it front to back but make sure you do not go into the threads. If you work slowly this is easy. Once you have 2 opposite cuts take a flat-blade screw driver and hammer it a couple times....it will pop in half. No need to stress the crank or piston.
