js 440 weak points

is it unreliable or just under powerd? I will be swaping a 750 into it next summer I just want to know if the hull is crap because then I will be looking for a different one. I saw that the 550's have a weak spot in the side of the hull that likes to crack if you land hard on the side, is that the same on the 440's?

Weak points

Hull- cracks at front nose piece and beginning of tray to engine compartment.
Pole-cracks at lower end at bolt hole, replace bushings for sure.Use the ones that go inside the pole.
Weak handlepole spring
Stock Bildge- not really effecient if you do subs etc...
Carburator-38 mm carburater is stock bn bad its a crap carb, needle and set gets worn , you cant adjust jets, pop off measuring is a pain in the......
Stock exhaust- way to heavy and unfunctional
Stock waterbox oftern leaks and has holes, if rubber pad is gone might even slightly damage hull.

Good ski to start learning if you are not to heavy..

Good luck and have fun !

yeah just get it running, not enough power there to really mod and get anything out of it...not worth the money either. Check the thru-hull driveshaft houseing, make sure it packed full of grease and grease the pump also, on the back of the pump there should be a grease fitting(cant remember if its covered by a cone or not, its been too long) and make sure that has grease in it too. Everyones right they are prone to cracking and stuff but its a great cheap learning ski! thats what i learned on.

you could do this

when/if you end up swapping a 750 motor you will need to upgrade your pump. I believe the unit from a 750 bolts in with little to no pain involved.

For the money you will sink into it you will be better off finding a square nose for under $1000. I would ride what you have and when its not enough anymore sell it. Too bad you are in canada, i have an sx300 for sale that would be a great candidate for a motor swap

ya I know it kind of sucks being up here some times. our dealers dont even advertise jetskis we have to special order them (at least all the dealers around me) so its very hard to find much of anything I had never even knew that yamaha made jetskis untill a couple months ago (wich sucks because I usually dont buy anything but yammies). I may have to take a drive down to the states to pick up a ski and maybe do a little riding wile I'm down there, but I'll have to wait for a bit after my wedding.
but anyway I think I will just get this 440 working and drive the piss out of it and get a yammy when I'v got the money.
