SXR Issues installing X-Metal pole...RESOLVED!

I got the correct (so I thought) cable adapter from X-Metal and found some issues:

For one, my cable wouldn't even come close to fitting through the hole. I had to file and drill out the hole to finally get the cable through. I wasn't sure what the adapter was for until I realized that the Kawi cable sits farther back (or rather toward the front of the ski) than the Yamaha cable (duh, I removed a UMI to install this one and the mount was farther back on that one too).

So I go to install said adapter and find that it won't even come close to fitting over the end of my cable. Do SXRs have larger cables than earlier Kawis? I have a 94 750sx cable here and the threaded end and that next part that flexes are very thin. I measured my cable and it's .3775. The adapter ID is only .3250. Now before someone says drill it out, I should point out that the retainer groove diameter is .3660, so no go there.

Has anyone else run into this? Do I have some beafy aftermarket cable? Did they send me an adapter for early Kawis and not the correct one? What gives?

Here's the pic X-Metal sent. I will also talk to them tomorrow.

Now that I see the 750 cable is smaller, I understand why I've seen so many break. I'm going to try and stick with my SXR cable. I have a UMI pole and their special bracket. I will see if I can retro-fit that bracket onto my X-Metal pole. If so, problem solved.

I'll update this if I find a better solution.

Got the Pm. I'll call if I have any other questions.

Thanks,
Steve

The factory 750 and 800 cable are the same size the 750 is just shorter on the turnplate end .By it being shorter you want need the adapter ,you will need to countershink the cable end a little so it will work I have had no problem with this setup .P4180016.jpgP4180012.jpgP4180018.jpg

Ok, I see now. My ski was built by Blowsion a few years ago, and they have a heavy duty version. I'm betting I have that one then. It's way fatter than the sx cable I have. Looks like I'm going custom, or swapping to the sx cable.

Alright, here's my solution:

I fab'd up a small bracket to fit inside the pole and hold the steering cable at the original spot.

Here's some pics.

The one hole is a bit closer to the edge than I liked. My measurements were off a tad when I drilled through the pole. It's plenty secure though.
