is girdled head necessary

is a girdled head only necessary if your doing barrell rolls or are planning useing a exhaust that is not top mounted, i doubt ill b able to pull off any barrel rolls but am planning on putting factory pipe on my 96 sj

You will get mixed answers on this.
I know a ton of people myself included that ran B pipes for years with stock heads and never had any trouble. However, you do hear of the occasional cylinder cracking. If you are just looking to stay on the cheap side of things I would go for it. 61x cylinders are really cheap these days so worst case is that if you had to you could just pick up another cylinder.

+++++++totally agree

i know also many people use dry pipe with the stock head never have a problem
my first superjet was like this .
i think that barrel rolls had nothing to do with girdled head..spend your money for some porting and boring (max 82mm to be sure) and never worry about cranking

I think that girdled heads are only necessary when you're going to extreme compressions, aka above 200 PSI. I have run multiple skis with a B pipe, porting, and a stock head, and I have never had a problem with it. Ive even run a ski with a stock milled head (185 PSI), porting, and B pipe, and it still runs to this date!

For ada the only difference in price is the girdle kit itself at 60 or 70 bucks. I consider that worthy insurance on the 360 I spent in porting, the 300 for bore/hone/pistons and the whatever it would cost to get me another cylinder.

sure you can go for ages and not crack a cylinder , some people drive for years with no insurance and never have a car crash
I will not port a cylinder for some one with out a girdle head, the reason being by the time you machine the head and put another head gasket your halfway there anyway
