Intermediate Shaft Coupler removal.

What is the tricks to remove the coupler on the intermediate shaft?? Any special tools needed. Can I do it with the part in the hull.

Just lookin for some guidance. Never done this on a Yamaha.

BTW- I have plenty of beer + patience.

do it similar to what he said if you have a grinder there is a collar on the top towards the coupler flatten two sides opposing each other to give you a flat spot to clamp in the vise or for next time you can do it in the boat with a good wrench . then you any prybar you can across through the teeth of the coupler and hopefully it will come off if not use a metal hammer on the edge of the teeth on the coupler and the shock from the hammer blow will break it lose and retry with pry bar . try not to mangle your coupler with hammer but you need to hit metal to metal to get the shock . good luck

Sounds bout the same as a Kawi. No worries about the coupler. Its taking the long walk in the recycling bin!!

hang on to it. I might need it one day. those billet couplers are for rich people!

i dont know if you could do it with the shaft still in the hull. i wouldnt think so?

I've done it in the hull a couple of times. Used a 14" and an 18" pipe wrench.:smile:
