Impeller Question???

So I've been reading through a ton of threads trying to decide what impeller to put on my superjet.

It seems as though everyone recommend the solas concord with 3mm cutback. How come no one is running scats? I've heard great things about scats from multiple people.

I am only putting a b-pipe and head on the ski and probably won't be doing more than that for a while so what would you all recommend for a pitch?

I've heard 13/15 13/16 13/17 12/17. I'm looking for better low end, but I don't want it to be all low end.

After reading through all of these threads I have come to the conclusion that a 13/17 would probably be my best bet. What do you all think?

Thanks.

Sounds about right Dan... 13/17 3mm cb should accomplish that for you. That's what's on my B1 and ya know how that rips and has some top to it as well. That with B pipe and head will do you fine IMO.

BTW, nothing wrong with the Skats as well. I know they make something comparable to whatever Solas. I've seen a lot of guys say there's less wind up with them and more of an immediate hit. I think my 96 RN has a Skat (for comparison)...

Thanks Reed.

I picked up a couple more scholarships so it looks like I'll have a little extra money to put into the sj.:woot:

Now all I've got to do is find a b pipe. You know a blue powdercoated b-pipe would look great in that ski. :sneaky: :fingersx:

I run a Solas Concord 13/16 cutback 3mm, in a blueprinted pump. Last weekend I sucked a rock through that pump.
I ended up swapping in a non-blue printed pump and an old skool skat 10/18.
Honestly, the ski didn't feel very different at all to me. It's a lot faster on top now. Phill says he could tell from the bottom end.
I am horrible at judging small increases in performance, though.
I just picked up a Skat swirl 13/18 that I'll try....

Oh well, the $50 price was right and it's better than stock. It'll prolly be fine for surf riding.
At least it was not $300! :highhorse:

I run an 8-16 skat in my '06 SJ and it works great, not motor mods yet but soon to have a head and probably a pipe next year, will the 8-16 still work or should I start shopping?

It might work fine....but with more power, it'll probably cavitate.
I noticed that about the 10/18 Skat I run now: Great mid and top acceleration, but it cavitates slightly off the bottom. And that's with a stock cone.

How does the Skat Trak 14/22 super slim preform? I just bought one off eBay.

WOW that is steep, if it were a mag prop I would take it and pitch down to 14/21 and see what it did, but a slim line 14/22, it would take a lamey 8mil to push that one I would think.

I want to try a SKAT swirl, but the concord 13/16 CB I have in my sons boat is nice, but has that wierd slip then grab feel to it to me. Hits hard when it grabs though.

I've heard about that slip in a Solas Concord CB from so many people and then I finally got to ride a ski that had one and I figured I wouldn't be able to tell cuz I haven't ridden many ski's besides my stock SJ and I even noticed the slippage.

I think I'm definitely going to go Scat.
