If someone wires you money, can they scam you like that?

A dude wants to buy my jet ski and wants to wire the money into my bank account. Can I get scammed like that? As in he pulls money back out? He is from Canada. He wants to wire the money and then I would ship him the jetski in a crate through some shipping company. He would need my account and transit/routing number also.

If a wire transfer is sent and received with the correct information on the wire transfer transmittal form, then the funds cannot be taken from your account without your permission. Always have the sender e-mail or fax you a copy of the wire transfer instructions, for your records.

If the wire transfer is poseted into your account by error, then the funds can be removed to rectify the error.

Wire transfers are the safest way of sending and receiving money, so I would say go for it.

Set up a new account, get the money sent to the new one, then transfer it to your normal account.

There is a routing number for withdrawls and a routing number for deposits. Check out your check book. Look at the checks that you send to your utility companies. Observe the 1st group of numbers. Now turn to the back of the check book and look at the deposit slips. Observe the 1st group of numbers there. See how they are different?

Just cover your back by getting copies of everything and you should be fine.
