I think I may have killed it...

NVJAY775

My home away from home.
I hooked up my + and - backwards in the RN. Starter turned fine, just didn't engage the flywheel. Duh on my part. I hate it when I do stupid crap! Oh well, is what it is now I have to fix it. Anyways, now when I hook the battery up PROPERLY the starter turns and engages the flywheel without the lanyard connected. It has an enhancer in it and the rest of the ign is stock. Last year I lost my ground and spliced into the ground coming from the stator and grounded it to a front cover bolt. When the battery is hooked up that ground jumper wire gets HOT fast.

Thoughts?

Thanks fellas

I did that twice last year on my wife's ski. First time I popped the fuse, second time I popped the voltage regulator because I bypassed the fuse after the first incident. If all the wiring checks out, replace the voltage regulator before you get too excited, it could be a fairly cheap fix yet.

I now have the battery posts marked much clearer than OEM.

^^Exactly. If you have a fuse, it will blow.
If you don't, the voltage regulator goes.

You'll smell it as soon as you open the ebox.
A blown regulator acts like a near-short to ground, draining your battery very quickly and making it difficult, if not impossible to start.

I snagged spare regulators and a couple spare fuse holders from Jetmaniac to get mine all back up to grade as my other ski didn't have a fuseholder even.

You can buy water-proof fuse holders at auto parts stores and boating supply stores.
Regulators are pretty cheap, too.
