Talk to Ken Klus...the CEO of Ocean Pro and chief engineer of the swirl dome technology heads.

I found a group K article here and I'll copy this portion.... The main link is http://www.groupk.com/archbtl97.htm

Still think they work?

Doug

"The text of the article seemed pretty straight forward, however we have some major disagreements with a few technical points. Page 109 states that the spiral cut head dome pattern puts the mixture into a swirl motion. While we have seen other shops that have mimicked this same feature, there is no test data ever produced by any reputable engine builder/designer that confirms that any such "swirl effect" helps or even exits. No one has ever proven that such a dome shape actually induces a swirl motion on to the mixture, nor that such a motion does actually net a performance benefit..."it simply LOOKS like it ought to work". Sharp edges, like the ones that exist in the OP spiral domes, are avoided by most engine builders because they are such a high risk starting point for pre ignition. The disadvantages of these shape edges is only one of the reasons that spiral cuts like this are not employed in any true racing engine designs. If OP has definitive, repeatable, test data that proves this design does have performance merits over standard hemispherical domes in high output pwc engines...they ought to present it for publication. Such a tech item would be a first."

well I installed the head today, compression before was 150 per cylinder, thats not bad for 16 years old right? After the head it was 175.
Should I run 93 to be safe?
The bracket that holds my stock pipe steady didnt fit the new head so what should I do, just fab up some sort of bracket. All I have is a dremel, drill, basic hand tools, grinder, and hardware stores.
Now I started the ski afterwards and it revved really high, so I adjusted the idle down and it seems more normal now, is that normal cuz before it was a nice idle?
Should I let it warm up in the water more than I would a regular ride?
I kinda made a bracket that should work tomorrow just for a test ride but I def need something more heavy duty for jumping.

I have an OP head brand new for my Kaw 650 X2. I am now leaning towards selling it and getting my money back. Ken claims a lot of things as does Harry K. I am not trying to put either down. Ken is a Mechanical Engineer. However I must say that most Mechanical Engineers his age were not trained in high tech engine/flow modeling software. I will show my head to my alternative fuels professor. Maybe he can throw in his $0.02.

As far as Harry, he speaks a good game but he is in the market of selling machine work, not parts!

After I blew up my Group K engine.... he was of little help to me. It is easy to blame everything on bad jetting. But it is not the best idea when the paying customer will go to someone else the next time they need an engine build. I mean really, you can't give jet specs for a Kaw 750 engine running a Coffman Pipe and a SBN 44? Harry just wanted to sell me a Kehin 42!

Just my $0.02

I totally agree. I do need to call Ken and see what he says about this head I have. I had an impulse moment an just had to have it! But now I start thinking back when I melted down a top end using a swirl head. Plus gas is expensive now a days! 87 octane works for a stocker! No mods this year for me I guess....
