Ive got a used Xmetal pole that has some PC lifting from salt water use and was thinking it would look real nice with that dull silver ceramic coat. Was wondering how durable it is compared to powder coating. If not Ill just PC it black.

I just got my Pipe and head pipe ceramic coated, It came out sweet.

Has anyone did anything to a motor other than paint (any kind) or Powder coating?

I may try something different.

Correct ceramic is for high temp. Powder Coating will resist flexing and denting better than ceramic will.
Another thing to remember is any corossion that start's under the edge of any topcoat will keep tunneling.

This is very true, that is why I chamfer every sharp edge on my cases and cylinder before I paint or coat them. The 90 degree edge is the enemy and the birth of corrosion.

Damm that's a good idea, I didn't think of it like that thank's Mick.

I actually learned that from when I worked for a coating company. Tungsten carbide thermal spray. I think every coating has a tendency to chip at any sharp corner, edge.
Go here http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/42384/post-568606#post568606and you can see what I did to my 760, as well as my 701 that is being coated now. I didnt post any pics of that one though, but I went even more overboard on it.

not a prob.

Ceramic coating scratches real easy and it's more suited for exhaust parts.

If you want the powder coating or paint to last in salt water you need to use a zinc rich primmer first.

I did do that on the motor in my blaster build thread. The coating im going to use on myh 701 will not need a primer. its not paint, ceramic coating nor powdercoating.

There are also some new powdercoats out there that look like chrome if you want to get real blingy. One of the benefits of ceramic coating is supposed to be corrosion resistance, there are several different ceramic type coatings not just the high heat versions.
