How to remove glue that holds the rubber rail cap on a RN

I removed all the mats today, and all the glue which held the neoprene mats on, by scraping, and using acetone.

The only way I could get the rubber rail cap off was by taking a razor blade and getting as close to the glue as possible. There is a tiny skin of rubber on top of the glue. I tried using the heat gun, but it took so much heat until it was to the point of being scrapable that the gel coat would get soft.

So what is the trick to removing this hard resin like glue off of the hull.

Enough people on here have done it so dont hold back:arms:

Thanks:biggthumpup:

either that or a fresh razor blade (thats what i used) its crappy no matter what way you look at it.
its probably better with the razor blade that way you dont sand away unwanted areas untill you get the big crap off then do a finish sanding to smooth out

Hey I like the New Boat Smell! But the glue they use seems to make a gummy mess from what I saw. Not that I actually contributed in the removal. Many thanks to the TN crew my black boats look damm good because of them.:purr: :purr: :purr: :purr:

I use a wire wheel in an angle grinder - rips that stuff straight off! The more surface damage you do to the gelcoat underneath the better too: makes the turf stick better. Don't be timid - just rip into that nasty Yamaha crap.
