Other How remove spark plug wires from OEM ignition coil (all 701)

So my spark plug wires went bad on my blaster. I thought if i had to go and buy a new coil to replace the leads, i might aswell give it a go drilling out the old wires on the OEM ignition coil.

The way i ended up doing it, was to first pull out as much of the old wires that i could from the ignition coil. The wires are glued in there with some sort of epoxy glue or similar. Once as much of the wires were pulled out, i found a dremel with a very small drill on it. I then started drilling along the edges of the hole for the wires on the coil. If its done carefully, its possible to drill out all the glue and remaining insulation of the old wire. In the center of the hole is a small spike/thingy that goes into the center of the wire to conduct the electricity from the coil to the wire. Make sure you drill around this.

Its takes a little time to do it right, so be patient :)

I attached a few pictures of my drilled out ignition coil. All thats left to do now is get some new wires and then just seal them back into the ignition with some epoxy or similar stuff.

Nice. I have been meaning to research this but then just sent all mine to OCD Solutions instead.

JetManiac sells Kawasaki coils with new wires and MSD boots on them and nice loom on the wires as a kit for Yamahas...a few bucks more than doing it yourself but definitely an alternative to consider.

Finally got the new MSD wires installed. Test fitted them to the pegs inside the coil before glueing them in with epoxy. Theyve been curing for a day now. Looks good :)

I considered getting this done from JetManiac or OCD Solutions. However shipping and customs to and from Denmark is too expensive for me when its not something i just can't find somewhere else, so thats why i decided to try this myself.

I think you made the right choice. I like helping guys out with my services but I always struggle when the shipping costs as much or more than the actual service.

If you have the resources then you are always better to at least try it yourself.
