Do it twice?That's DooDoo
I imagine that I will be attempting rolls later on in next season... key word is attempting... I imagine I will be landing upside-down and on the side 99% of the time for the first couple weeks of trying. I want to make sure my new ski is pretty safe from getting some cracks. I am in the process of buying supplies. I have been reading A LOT of stuff on the site about reinforcing. VERY INFORMATIVE!!! thank you guys for having such great info available to someone what doesnt have friends that have done this stuff to help him out....

In your opinion, do you think 1 layer of 1708 biaxial (17oz) is good enough aid the hull in handling all the abuse? Or should I put 2 layers down since I'll already have the whole thing torn apart?

I would do one layer, no more.
In all likelihood, you will not ride/drop hard enough to destroy hull + one layer.

Additionally, two layers will get pretty thick & heavy.

i did one layer of 1708 and right on top carbon/kevlar hybrid. the carbon cevlar is a bit expensive but looks awesome

I did one layer of 1208 biax and 4oz of e-glass for a smooth to the touch finish.

Most importantly, do not over saturate the glass with epoxy. Use a plastic spreader (as used for bondo) to get all the epoxy evenly and thinly coated.

In this case, < is >

In general I'd rather do multiple light layers. Easier to fit to contours plus I think less tendency to over-fill the resin. I might even do a half dozen layers of straight cloth. That said the 1708 has a layer of chopped strand, the point of which is to give a smoother surface finish - If you want to do multiple light layers pick something without the chopped stuff in it. (Not a very big deal if thats what you have on hand though)
