How hot does it get in the engine compartment?

Hot enough to melt foam?

I was thinking about putting some closed cell foam on the hood so it doesn't sink if, heaven forbid, the hood ever were to come off.

Would the compartment get hot enough to melt the foam and turn it into a gooey mess on the bottom?

no, it would not melt, but you would be limiting the amount of air flow into the ski if you take up some of the space inside the liner.

U know, I've seen 'hood straps' mentioned many times, but never explained.

I've even tried to get people to take pictures of their hood straps, but to no avail.

Until I learn something else, I'm going to stick with what I know.

you will learn that the search function on X-H20 is your friend

there are many variations of a hood strap too... basically it is just any strap you setup to hold your hood down... some guys use rubber bungies, some use the clip ones like in the link above, some use ratchet straps... all will work

No, the search function in here is not my friend. It's very limited, to say the least.

I try it every time before asking a new-to-me question.

I love the search feature.... but I have used it so much I have become a pro at knowing how to find stuff... if you are having trouble with it dont give up... you will get used to it...

when you click search, click advanced, then type in your topic, then on the right it gives you the option of searching individual forums instead of the entire site, this way you can narrow it down.

Ger87410 - I made my own straps from nylon strap bought at Walmart and clips from the local Ace hardware (dont get the WM clips they dont hold well).

Cost me around $5 - $10 total.

No I don't but they were the only ones they had as I recall - just the heavy plastic clip type with double slots on both ends to wind the strap ends through.

When I say the WM ones didn't hold, I mean they didn't seem to have enough friction to keep the straps taught at all times. The ones I have now i can pull as tight as I want and they stay.

Oh and I also put round velcro tabs on the backs of the long end side, and the other half of the velcro tabs on the underside of the handpole - that way I can stick them up and (somewhat) keep them out of the way as Im working and when I put the hood back on.
