How does the stock GoPro mounts hold up on the front of a ski?

My experience has been that they will fail. It could take a while or it could be almost immediate, but you will break them. I try to keep mine as low-profile as possible. And be sure to use the floaty back door.

the surfboard mont has more surface area but its flat so it doesnt mount/adhere well on curved surfaces. the cold fusion mount is hard mounted (bolted) to the hull and it holds the camera from the housing not just the weak plastic tabs. if you invested money in a gopro, its best that you protect your investment with something that is fail safe.

Just go ahead and buy the cold fusion mount and you wont have any worries. You can change it to so many different angles and won't have to worry about it.

Back door floaty and a lanyard to the hull, or helmet, or chesty. The chesty kind of gets in the way IMO. I like the helmet, or hood, but as stated above it will cut you up pretty good when doing hood tricks. I've had scars for 3 years now…. The lanyard works awesome when the mount breaks though. I'd rather the mount break than the case itself. There needs to be a weak link in there somewhere to protect the camera.

X2. Mines on for over a year now but i ripped my $350 wetsuit because of it. I don't even put the camera on it anymore kinda useless. Plus I feel like 80% of the shots from that angle are boring. Chest or head mount with a tether only. Oh and I put a mount on a pole and lost the camera with in 10 minutes.

I used my suction cup mount on the front of my DVX. Worked good. It was freezing weather with snow on the ground but after 2 days of riding and one big pancake flip from a buddy the go pro now remains at the bottom of the lake with some excellent footage. On the bright side my wife bought me a new 3+ for Xmas.

My son found a gopro on a suction cup mount a little over a year ago at Topaz lmao! Sorry you guys lost cams though…. Money is money and it sucks to lose it.

So no on the suction cups? My wife bought me one for the gopro I'll be receiving someday..... Trying to get one half price using a snowboard instructor friend's discount but they aren't discounting them for him right now due to insane demand. Might just break down and pay the extra cash if I don't have it by march
