300/440/550 How does dome sizes relate to head selection?

I need to get a head for my '87 550 PP engine.

I want to make sure I get the right head. I've noticed some posting with heads for sell and the dome size is mentioned.

How do you pick the right dome size/head for the cylinders you have?

We use to just cut the head .050 to raise compression.

U talking about milling?

Is that what they're talking about when they say 'dome size' is how far the head's been milled?

If you look at the head, we basically cut all the ridge away you can see at the bore size. Another way was to run a copper head gasket, that bumped comp. too, just don't do both.
