Other How do you work ......ing 8 harness satin

If you don't know don't post ( just enjoy my rant )

Harness satin gives me fits on large items . No matter what I try..... I CANNOT get the air pockets out . Sticks here...... bubbles there ....... bubbles there .......... sticks here.

I used two yards this evening ......... and just freekin ripped each one off right before it set. This is after an hour of working each layer . I sure i'm doing something wrong , but can't figure it out . Every time I use this stuff it beats me up. The US composite epoxy has to be forced / beaten into it .

THIS IS MY DECREE FOLLOW XER'S ............

As God as my witness shoot me if I order another inch of this sh%$%# I mean Fabric .

Are you brushing some resin on the hull before you lay the fabric on there? I've used a lot of that stuff and absolutely LOVE it even on complex curves. Typically I get air bubbles when the fabric isn't stretched out properly or there isn't enough resin. Work the resin in from the inside out and like I said before, brush a layer of resin on the hull before you lay the fabric. If it's a really complex curve that I think might pop up, I'll go back after 3-4 hours when everything is tacky and push the edges down but I don't really get air bubbles. I'm using the 3:1 resin but I'm guessing it has more to do with how you lay it and not the resin.

I don't know but I posted anyway. If it was biax I would say wet it, stretch it, wet the surface too, smash the :):):):) out of it with a brush everywhere for a while, then use chip clips and clothespins.

VIOLATION ! VIOLATION ! posting without knowing .

Yea nut , I'm doing every thing you said . These are large bubbles that spring up all over the hood. I think I must be causing be tension in the fabric .

It's nothing big Toby just a little hood reinforcement. I'm wraped the whole hood with some 11oz carbon adding a layer of 8hs for support and to limit the amount of fairing/ sanding . I think it will really help bridge / fill the weave pattern . I'll give it another go this evening.

how does pre wetting the fabric on plastic work ? ever try it ?

I've done it before but usually only do that when I'm stretching the cloth over an area that I can't brush the resin on such as a hole. Maybe if you do that and just lay the fabric on with your hands, it'll prevent the pulling but a piece that big is going to be messy as all heck. The other option is to lay the cloth over the hood in multiple layers. If you decide to go this route, I would personally make any overlaps on a portion of the hood that can be easily sanded to help make additional sanding for smoothness easier.
