hot water and engine performance

A few weeks ago I rode and everything felt great. I took a 2 week break and when I came back the ski just felt like it had lost some mojo. It still had some kick but it wasn't as instant as usual and it really seemed like I was having to use more throttle than usual as well. During that 2 week break the water temperature went from about mid 80's to mid 90's. Water temp is now 96.

The engine is a 61x/61x with FP and total loss. I run dual cooling in the redundant style where both lines enter in the exhaust manifold. The engine and pipe are hot to the touch but they don't sizzle water. Initially the engine felt normal but it seemed to get weaker after a few minutes. To see if the pipe was potentially too hot, I backed off the top pipe screw a quarter turn and it seemed to help a good bit but that just doesn't make sense to me.

Any other ideas of what could've caused that loss of power? Making the pipe cooler when it wasn't sizzling just seems like it would have the opposite effect on power.

What happened with the air temp and humidity? They are much more important for power production. I imagine it is just a coincidence and you have an issue somewhere else though.

Air temp got a little hotter... low 90's to upper 90's. Humidity is god awful but maybe a little higher now. Certainly not winter to summer difference though.

96 deg water??? Screw that.

Perhaps increase cooling flow and see if it makes a difference.

Geez.....96 is about the normal outflow I see from my engine. :lmao:

hot air and operating temps will richen up a 2-stroke
(same fuel, less O2 per unit volume, f/a ratio goes up)
like the opposite effect of cold air intake
try leaning out the carb screws a little to see if it helps
