Help with sj trailer

Hey guys-

New to this forum, but not to forums in general.

Anyway, I searched for this but didn't find what I'm looking for, and I'm hoping someone out there can help me.

I'm designing a way to carry an '08 SJ with my trailer. Currently the trailer is a big flat surface with wheel chocks in the front for carrying to race bikes, and I'm hoping to adapt it for use with a SJ.

The trailer is plenty big enough for one and probably even two, side by side. Currently I'm only looking to build a system for one.

My question is that when I mount the carpet-covered 2x4's (I'm assuming I'll use that) that will actually contact the hull of the ski, does anybody have any dimensions as far as rough angle of the carpet-covered runners, how far apart they should be, and how high off the flat deck they should be? I figure if I put them too far apart or too low, the bottom of the hull might hit the deck, and be pretty much pointless.

I'm going to drive a good 6hrs to pick up an '08 SJ, and obviously I can't get it without a trailer, but I don't feel comfortable just eyeballing the trailer runner dimensions without a SJ to measure from, or someone (hopefully) helping me with some dimensions.

General suggestions on construction materials, method, or anything else you feel might be helpful would be appreciated as well.

Thanks guys.

spacing is almost exactly 12" on center.

some folks just run them skinny side up, I prefer to angle them about 30 degrees to match the hull.

I think ive got some pics in my gallery, Ill try and find them and link them.

welcome to the X by the way!

WELL edit.

I cant find the OLD gallery, someone hook me up?

Excellent gallery, wow that's pretty much exactly what I was looking for.

So yeah, height off the deck is the only real thing that I'm unsure of, though it looks like you've got them mounted directly on the cross-members. (So no height is needed). Do you expect the '08's different hull (I think there's a new hull...) would affect the spacing or angle?

And what about securing it at the bow? I see you made some nice little brackets that fit through a hole in your bow... Do all skis have that nice mounting hole? If not, how would you recommend securing it to the front of the trailer?

Thanks for the quick response, I love it when forums are helpful.

all the yamahas I have fit this trailer, superjets, VXR, and FX1 have that Bow eye in the front, drop the pin thru and ready to roll.

If its really a bumpy road, I strap across the trays of the skis too, but its not needed on typical paved roads generally.

Oh yeah, my kawasaki 750sx fit on this trailer too.
