HELP!!! No top end!!!

I just swapped over from the 550 PP to a 550 reed motor with the stock 28 kehien. After everything is hooked up correctly I tried to take it for a test run. The ski starts up and idles great. I jump onto the ski and start to pull out and it gets up to about half open throttle and past that nothing. Low end is there, but top end nothing. Its enough power to be on plane, but thats about it.

I have tried to trouble shoot it. Here is what we have done:

-Checked the gas tank to make sure its holding pressure by blowing into a tube and holding a finger over it for a few seconds and the letting it blow off. Also can tell its holding pressure because after sitting in the hot sun it lets off pressure when opening the cap on the tank

-Checked the fuel lines to make sure there is no loss of pressure in them. How we did that is took a tube, and bypassed the fuel selector and fuel bowl, right from the reserve pickup in the tank directly to the in on the carb.

-Checked the check valve on the fuel tanks breather tube. How we checked that is by taking it off the tank, sucking and blowing making sure that it is only letting in and not blowing out.

-Checked the pulse line by taking it off and blowing onto it with a finger on the one end. Also tried sucking too. I did however have a newer line that I put on there as the one that was on it was starting to get old and harder, and I figured what the hey, its off anyhow, why not.

-Checked the carb for any gum or debris that may be clogging the jets. When we took it off the carb was soo clean on the inside that you could have eaten off of it. (If you haven't had french fries with gas/oil flavor your missing out.)

-Checked the High screw. It is one turn out. I am unsure what they are suposta be at, but one out sounds about right to me.

It seems as if we checked more stuff than that, but I think thats it. Next on the cutting block is the fuel pump as I didn't want to take that off as you have to break the seal from the carb to manifold due to having to remove it to get to the bottom screws on the pump.

I also didn't check anything electrical. The electrical box is from my personal running ski, and was working great before the swap. I figured the timing was fine because of how well it idles and runs on low end.

Both cylinders are hitting on the line at 155psi. Spark plugs both read good, although the rear plug is a bit darker than the front. And the front one is what I would say is the ideal color.

Any ideas??????????????????????

PS - I tossed it in this section because I thought it could pass as a motor problem, also I wanted more eyes to see it.

Just got off the phone and have an update. This may or maynot be a problem like this.

There is no rev limiter on this ski anymore. Back when I had the PP on I swaped over to the 44sbn and dropped the rev limiter. Now looking at the rev limiter, I don't think I can hook it up to the 28.

Would this be a cause? maybe a restrictor pill is needed? To me it seemed that it wasn't getting enough fuel, not that it was getting too much. But maybe it is getting too much and just way too rich?

I also haven't swapped over the fuel, but it was good just a few days ago. And have taken this out as a possable cause. Also I would think if it was the gas it would run crappy on low end, also not idle as well as it does.

Any tips guys?

Update again, I just looked in the book, and there is no rev limiter on '91+ 550s... so thats not it.....

I also heard that this problem was fixed on another 550sx reed by holding the ski at WOT for about 10sec and it would clear up. Well after a few passes at WOT and holding it there for about 15sec-20sec nothing.

I dropped in a new set of plugs as well, still nothing.

I haven't popped open the fuel pump as of yet, and was also thinking that maybe... just maybe it was the gas. I don't expect it to be, but I am running out of ideas....

Anyone have any ideas for me to check? I've missed a whole weekend of riding already, and don't want to miss the next. I'm looking for answers or just ideas to check! I'm about 99.9% sure its not the fuel, and almost as sure its not the electronics, but I could be way off. Someone somewhere has to have run into this problem!

If you think this would do better under vintage, please move.

Please guys don't let PWCToday be the first to answer this question... Lets pull one in for the x!

stock. The motor is totaly stock other than a westcoast half pipe.

I think its the pulser coil.... I'm on the hunt for a stator.... my ohm meter is down, and I need to buy a new one, but after all of my posts I was on a major hunt for info, and I think thats what it is even though I haven't tested yet.... I know I should test before I buy, but I just wanna have a running ski again!!!!
