Help Me Decide On An Ignition System

I want to upgrade my ignition on my Superjet this year and I don't know what to do. I am building an 84mm 4mm stroker, however it's not done yet so I may be using this ignition with my 62T 760 motor. Last year I ran an enhancer with a lightened 62T flywheel with no problems at all.

Over the winter I bought another Enhancer and a Riva aluminum flywheel. After doing a bit of reading about the Riva/Rad aluminum flywheels, I don't know if I want to run one. It should be reliable but the timing will be all over the place, from what I have read. Also it doesn't retard the advance enough at high RPM. So now I am thinking about buying an Advent, Inferno, Vilder with Vilder flywheel, or a MSD total loss.

I really would like having a light flywheel so that rules out the Advent. I also had a bad experience with an old Advent a few years ago. The Infreno will work with the aluminum flywheel but will take a bit to set up, and I would have to buy the programmer separately. MDS TL work well when they work, however they are very expensive new and used ones are hard to find these days. I also would like a charging system.

This leaves me with the Vilder with the Vilder aluminum flywheel. It does everything you want an ignition to do. It's programmable, light flywheel, it charges, and you can choose between two curves on the fly. However the Vilder is expensive and has no customer support. When it quits, you throw it away.

Any feedback on the Vilder system will be appreciated. There is a lot of information available here about the other systems but it is winter now and all opinions will be appreciated.

I love my MSD TL. Reliability isn't a problem with a quality installation. However, they are indeed hard to come by used, and horribly expensive new.

I could go without a charging system. The biggest problem the the MSD TL is when it quits, it will be hard to troubleshoot. If an enhancer or Advent quits, I just keep a spare enhancer in my tool box. I can repair it on the beach in under an hour. We have such a short season I don't want any down time.

I am also scared to buy a used MSD TL and new ones are too expensive for me.

Dual Channel Digital. The MSD TL isn't that hard to troubleshoot - but without at least a spare coil & pickup in hand, it would be tough.

If you can find a Vilder its $600.00 for the flywheel and about $900.00 for the new red box. With the vilder you can put as much advance as you want then drop it back as fast and as much as you want.

whats a charging system? :sneaky: a good battery will last you a whole day of riding plus some for wash. then just charge your battery till next time, or the night before, no biggy.

check out Jetworks' KB35 battery, great guys setting you up with great products. myself and a few others rely on them over the Odyssey batteries, which are still good batteries.

MSD TL is your friend.

Yup. My Jetworks lasts me for 6-8 hours of riding. I've made it a habit to hook up the charger once I get home. That's a 3 minute operation.

The big thing about the Vilder is its correction circuitry. There is a lot going on. CJ built BMW's formula one cars ignition and did of work for Aprilla's two-stroke program. His ignition gets that last percentage out of the engine. The system lets you program exact points on a curve. If you ever see the curve that Speedworks had for their pipe you would be surprised to see the timing increase a little at the end then drop down again before rev limit.

By far the vilder for everyday and everytype of riding, but you will spend more than a new MSD-TL when you add his flywheel with CJ's programmable CDI. If you mostly ride freshwater, You won't beat a new MSD-TL, all of my upper horsepower motors I have MSD-TL on them...Good battery and with a clean install, MSD's are very relible now, not like the old days...
