Other Heat range running in colder water

Been looking for any threads on slowing the flow of water into your engine.Running in colder water at this time of year, the water exiting the pisser's is cooler (makes sense!).l would like to restrict some water coming in (or slow it down exiting) somehow. On some of the old duel cooling 550's,l would just plug off one of the cooling lines. But there was not a lot of performance mods done, only a/m carbs, some minor port work and a half pipe. But it concern's me to do the same on the ss865 that l run.

Like to hear some options and opinions

I have used the Jetworks puck type restrictors on the over board side of the head. I think 3 mm was what I ran. For some reason 170 on the head temp sticks in my mind . You can check it real easy If you have a lazer temp thingy . I May be off a couple of degrees.

I adjust the water out at the head to be as close to 120* as I can and even as I can between both cylinders. 120* was the minimum temp. Use a valve, restrictor, etc.. You can use a cheap food thermometer to measure it. I also get the engine completely warmed up at idle before taking off at high RPM.

l had heard that you were off by a couple of degrees Kev!
Seriously,l think l have one of those laying around my junk pile.Have to look of it.

Totally agree with you on the cold seizure method.Best way to lose an engine quick! l am always the one lagging behind on start up.l idle out and add a little throttle as she heats up.

So you restrict the water on its way out of the motor, not restrict the amount coming in from the pump then ?

Its much easyer to restrict the water going out. If you restrict the water going out it prevents water from coming in.

With my bpipe i just closed off one water line and ran single cooling, but I need to get this pfp thing set up differently. Should be entertaining. Wonder if Matt will post up? He rides cold water. Hopefully some more input. I never checked my temps unfortunately with the bpipe. Great post Don! Thank you.

flap dem wings johnny!
jetworks quick disconnects in each pisser line . they come with 3 diff restrictors
2mm for under 45 degree water
3mm for 45-55 degree water
4mm for 55-65 degree water
No restrictors above 65 degree water
thatll give you 90-110 pisser temps. matt told me about em, picked mine up for i think 60-70 bucks for 2 of em

l found those yesterday looking on line after Sportcatch mentioned Jetworks.Appreciate the help D-Nice! (Honorable mention also goes out to the Kev!) But before buying anything, l got all of my coffee cans out and found in one of them a shut off valve. So going the cheap azz way for this weekend and adjust till l find the correct temp.

Been wondering?
How many of us have gone out and bought parts to find that you had it stowed away in some can or box later? Now you have 3 of the same!
