I have an HDTV-Ready Sony. I want to get a HDTV Over-the-air tuner that fits in my computer. And upgrade my video card to have an HDTV-out on it. This way I can have HDTV on my computer and run a cable to my bigscreen and have HDTV on it too. This seems possible, I just don't know for SURE if it works like I'm thinking in my head?!?!?!

The video card.
Havent decided yet, there are millions of them. But needs to be AGP since I haven't upgraded to PCI-x yet.

Any input you guys have would be appreciated on if this scenario works?

there was a pretty good episode of systm (I think it was episode 2 its on google video). it went over running myth tv and using an hd tuner. might check that out.

make sure the tv can support the resolution of the video out cardif the tv cannot hand the resolution it will be blurry and distorted and if you run it like that, you will need to have the pc on all the time to have the HDTV on the big screen. i worked for sony for the last year before moving back up north so i know what works and does not work on their stuff... and you will need a stronger OTA antenna..... best thing would be to run the tuner in the pc with a bangin video card and get a seperate set-top tuner box. if you are running windows media center you have the ability to record the HD signal using the video inputs on the graphics card if it supports it

you wanna look at a video card that has the ability to handle 1080i/720p/480i/480p video signal if you are gonna output it to your tv to get the best quality signal

post up what model sony tv you have and i can recomend some stuff that works and does not work

i think thatis what is being adopted as the new standard though.

really no importance to me as i am still in the old school 1080 i world
but i think this is where it is all going now

i am curious what real world improvements my eye will see over a 720 p or 1080 i picture and all

probably NONE:woot: :woot: :bs2:

I have a 57" Sony Direct View. I dont know exact model but it is a year old this month. It is HD-ready, so I have to have a tuner.

If the PC venture doesn't work out. I read that you could use an old VOOM satellite receiver for OTA broadcast HD. Since VOOM went out of business, the receivers are like 40 bucks on EBAY.

Another HDTV??

When you are watching a program that is in HD should there be bars on either the top or sides of the picture or should it take up the whole screen?

Some quick questions to ask yourself...

Do you have a 'wide' screen?
What aspec ratio are you watching in - 4:3 or 16:9?
Do you have your 'zoom' on?
