Hand holds ????

Anyone who has hand holds can help me out. Im doing a stock hood mod. I already removed the hood liner and im trying to decide how big and where i should put my hand holds. Ive got 2 on either side with dimensions of 3 1/2 tall by 2 1/2 wide. Let me know if these are normal sizes too big too small or what. Anyone whos put in their own handholds give me some tips if ya can. Also anyone put there own holds into the nose or on the outside of the tray sides?? I think im going to mold my own in there.

Here's how I did mine

I made a template on PS and guessed the size til I had something that looked good to me. I made sure that the handhold came down far enough so that when I put the buckets in they would drain without any holes. They are plenty big enough for my hands and the liner is placed so you dont hit it in general riding.

I was checking out your build earlier meatball. Ive got a round nose so my hood is alittle bit different. Im trying to come up with the best spots to put them. Im considering shaving the top of the hood off and the extinguisher holder. I kind of want to ride it this century so I may not. My damn camera broke this afternoon while i was trying to take pictures of my build. I was going to show you where i have them laid out to see what you guys thought.

Definiteally get ahold of Mark. I am sure he has measurements and sizes. He done a 2nd set on his ladys ski.

Check out these pictures Marks Hood is black and on another ski but you can see the pictures.

What I did was cut out a couple sections inside the hood to gain access to the underside of the hood.

I drew up the hand hold holds in AutoCAD then printed them out full scale I then cut them out of the paper and laid them on the hood where I wanted the holds to be located and traced the pattern on the hood. I cut them out using a pneumatic die grinder I then laid a couple layers of 10 oz. cloth over the holes from the inside of the hood over the holes I let that set up then took the die grinder and cut the holes out again. This gave me more meat in the hold location and stiffened up the hood where the holds are placed.

I used Tupper wear to form the buckets for the bolds. I laid two layers of 10oz. cloth over the forms let that set up then popped them off the forms while they were still a little green so I could trim them with a scissors to fit the surface of the underside of the hood. I sanded and painted the edges of the hand hold holes then I mixed up resin with fiber and glued the buckets on the inside of the hood. After that set up and I was happy with everything I then used 1/8” PVC from McMaster Carr (# 8747K124) to cover the holes on the inside of the hood. The pvc can be cut with a scissors and formed with a heat gun. The edges that go up the inside of the hood I had bent at work on a break to give me a nice straight line. The pvc can be attached to the hood liner with resin.

I can take some pics of the finished product and post them if you need me to.

Think Bleazle (from down under) first posted that way to do them, at least the part using the tupperware for pockets (molds).

I did it the same way as pretty much everyone else does. Formed up some cardboard and covered in duct tape. Then covered my plug w/cf. For the cutout I just eyeballed the holds on my wcf hood. I'd like to see some pics of the tupperware though - do you cut it up to get it to mount flush I guess?
