As an engineer I always disagreed with grinding out the stiffeners. You wouldn't remove the floor joists in your house and add an extra sheet of plywood because you'd fall through... The concepts are exactly the same, only the application is different.

this is fiberglass not wood and the application is completely different. I understand what you are saying but it's not correct in this situation. Those ribs provide some support, but it's nothing compared to the fiberglass reinforcement that is added. If what you say is correct, then there would be no benefit to grinding and reinforcing at all and our skis would actually be less rigid w/ removing ribs and reinforcing... and we all know that is not true. Another thing is air pockets around the rib... that will make your reinforcement a waste of time anyway..

GRIND EM!!!! :smokin:

Not sure if your saying there are air pockets in my glass work or in general. Because there are none in my glasswork that I see.

In a SN, don't waste your time grinding out the top deck ribs... just hit them from the side with a hammer. It is a lot quicker and they fold right over.

Not to mention the fitment of the B pipe afterwards. You'll have to grind a bunch down.

I ground mine out when I reinforced and have had no structural problems at all(RN and SN), and i beat my skis hard. Ask anyone who knows me.. also anyone that knows me will not let me ride their ski either...lol.

Those ribs are for pole bracket support. End you reinforcement at the ribs, nothing is gained by removing them. Its best to add material to each side of the ribs if more strength is desired.
