Girdle Head Help!!! Short Bolts??

Location
hhh
here are a few pics of my problem. the 2 bolts on the intake side front and rear not middle are to short. when the bolt is all the way in and torqued it sits at the very top of the head, doesnt stick past for the nut. in the pic's i backed the bolt out far enough to get a nut on there. they look like they have been ground down?
my main question is can i use washers at the base to bring the stud up or do i have to get a new kit? i don't like the thought of having a bunch of washers under there, but i don't want to buy another girdle kit either.
thanks,
matt

I think some of your hardware is wrong for that head, you could always get the ADA studs and nuts perhaps, for some reason the two part stud kits are non existant almost.

Not absolutly sure the ADA studs will work, but it might be an option. Ask around, someone might have some extra parts to your kit.

get the right size of what you need at http://www.mcmaster.com/

search "metric threaded rod" and then look up Equal Thread Length Rods and Studs

you should be able to get everything for around 25 bucks, or less

Didn't see it there. Must be stainless, 10mm x 1.25 pitch. The japanese are just about the only ones that use a 1.25 in a 10mm diameter making it difficult to find.

Measure the length that you will need and call ADA to see if theirs is long enough. It probably will be. I am using their head and girdle kit on a 6mm stroker and it fits perfectly. Have also seen it used on an 8mm stroker.

fwiw, i had the 'multi-piece' kits on my SJ and they kept snapping, so im using ada studs with my (thick) riva head. i had to install them upside-down to get enough threads to catch the nuts sufficiently. has been working great for almost 2 yrs.

I think an ADA girdle kit is too short for a Pro Design head, you will have to get longer bolts. They should be M10x1.5. If they are M10x1.25 you will have a hard time finding them and they will be expensive. I remember going through this a couple of years ago.

Had the same issue. Picked mine up locally from Fastenal...local nut and bolt supplier. Had them in stock and paid .35 per bolt. Check the phone book for local suppliers.

Stock case size/threads in a Yamaha are 10mm X 1.25 ....
Try using the ADA stud kit and install studs upside down like sflsurfrider suggested...I would say thats your best option.
2nd option would be to use washers under the nut at the base to bump up the stud length, just be careful on making sure you have a nut width of threads for holding.

I would probably be careful about bumping up the base nut. I like to keep as many threads as possible intact to ensure holding power. I would rather take the base nut to the hardware store and find a matching stainless hex head bolt with a washer or two for the top of the cylinder to help it fit properly. Just my 2 cents.
