FX1 won't stop cranking

I was having some trouble getting my FX1 started today and I had to crank it longer than I usually do. Somehow the starter got stuck on and now it won't stop cranking. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. Now as soon as I touch the battery cables to the terminal it will start cranking and won't stop until I disconnect it again. I tried disconnecting the red and brown wires thinking that maybe the starter switch had stuck. However that didn't seem to fix it. Are there any other things that I should try or should I bite the bullet and pull the engine to replace the starter?

I had a starter solenoid go bad on a truck and it did the same thing. Try tapping it with a hammer firmly and see if it helps. If it does then for sure it's your solenoid. Otherwise just test it with a normal tester lol. I like the hammer one.

I dont think it could be anything else. Solenoid sounds stuck. Only other thing it could be is your start circuit back feeding through the wiring. You can disconnect the harness and check ohms between the two wires. Should read ofl. If it doesn't, then that is the issue. Otherwise your solenoid is stuck.

Yep it was the solenoid. I forgot it was in the e box and not on the starter. I took it out and tapped it with a screwdriver and it freed up. It seems to be starting okay now. I'll just be really careful not to crank it too long until I can get a replacement solenoid. Is that something that I could get at a local marina or would I have to order one?

Order an OEM one up from @JetManiac

Don't buy anything but OEM

I honestly keep two solenoids on hand at all times.. along with an extra bendix...

Maybe I'm a little paranoid lol.

EDIT: get oem and only oem. Be very careful. It will do it again...
