Fuel tank and exhaust fitment

I was looking at some of the oversized aftermarket fuel tanks and it looks like they are more exhaust fitment friendly. They look like the have been molded to accommodate the chamber. I'm going to attempt to put a B pipe on a 701 conversion 550sx and was concerned with fitment. It would also be nice to have the extra fuel.

It is def going to be a tight fit. If you look a my profile pic... that's a standard 550 tank and a 650sx cheater pipe. I tried to fit my b-pipe and gave up in frustration. I am sure you could fit it but most people seem to be using a Kart tank (so going smaller in tank) vs bigger.
good luck. You will love the ski.

I'm familiar with the oem tank. I have a 440 with a 701 now. This 550sx build will have more power and a 750sx pump.

Have you tried one of the aftermarket tanks? They look like they are made to accommodate a pipe.$_1.JPG

are you using the 701 mod b-pipe or the older style 650 factory pipe? the westcoast tanks were made for a tapered style exhaust cone vs the mod b-pipe. I think you would not have enough space between the flywheel cover and tank for the "bulge" of the pipe. I will let someone else throw in on this as I have not actually run the larger tank in the picture.

Correct. 61x complete, single carb. I have a Factory pipe exhaust mani and then 650sx headpipe and expansion section (lengthed by 3 inches) and then old westcoast tailcone. I think the mod pipe will fit but I don't know if it would fit the larger tank. The Rhaas ski has a b-pipe on it, but I think they used a kart tank.

Cool, ill look into the 650sx cheater you have. I dont need anything crazy, just something with a tad more hit that the stock exhaust. Kawi and yami have the same head pipe bolt pattern right?

Correct the 650SX pipe has the same headbolt pattern as factory pipe. Most of the 650sx pipes do as well. I have heard a lot of people having great experience with a PJS 3-piece 650sx pipe in case you want a mid-grade pipe to run.

I picked up a 750sx pump that was super clean with a solas 13/18 for $175. My 440/701 has the 440 pump and its just cant handle the larger engine, even with a 21 pitch. This 550sx should be awesome, -2 rear, chine mod, chopped pole, ported 701, 750sx pump, and best of all... rear exhaust. That 440 has front exhaust and it soooo annoying.
