Fuel Selector valve?

94 that ran good for about 30 minutes, changed spark plugs then it starts, runs for about 20 seconds and cuts off. I dont think it has anything to do with the spark plugs because the first time we ran it this year it did the same thing and I turned the selector back a little and it ran fine for the day. Most of the time it takes me spraying in starter fluid to get it to start but then it cuts off.

Is it easy to take the selector valve off and check for clogs? I think the lines may be original, they are grey fuel lines. Also, on the gas filter, it should be full to the level of the line leading to the carb, right? Mine is not, it has about 1/4 inch of gas in it.

Thanks,

replace fuel lines, replace tank breather valve, replace/clean fuel filter, and get rid of the selector and run the line straight to your carb.

at the beach this week, not sure where to get fuel lines here.....tried to take knob off of selector and of course the screw crumbled, doubt its been touched since 94.....

can anyone tell me if filter should be about 3/4 full of gas, mine is about 1/4?

Route the fuel line you have directly to the carb. It could also be the lines inside the tank are damaged and sucking air.

Okay so there are three that go to the selector, I see one that comes from it to the filter then out to the front side of carb, is that the right one? I will also open up the tank and see which line is the ON and which is RES and take that one straight to the carb...

The biggest thing you want to check is for air leaks. Hopefully it is just the selector but you should pull the lines, plug one end and blow in the other to make sure there are no holes or splits in them. Take the line from the Res output on the tank and put it directly to the carb. Hook the return line up to the On line.

Thanks man, got it running on the res line today and it ran well today.....it actually pulled in my superjet after it would not start in the inland waterway....my luck this week with the skis has not been good. Got a post under general for help with that :) started good at the dock, stopped and then it would do nothing, can hear a slight click. Replaced start/stop switch last year, any ideas?

'Hook the return line up to the On line."

Do you mean the line that looks like the breather line? I got a line that says "on" and "res" then one that has nothing on it....small like going from carb to intake...

Thanks again man.

Got the super going last night, needed new battery but I still cant understand how the bilge pump would work but would not even try to turn the motor over...
