Fuel pickup reserve hose length?

Is it supposed to be flush with the plastic cover that protects the on and reserve pickups? Or should the hose lay along the bottom to get the last drop of gas?

I've heard different things from different people. I would think having it laying on the bottom would get the last bit. But stock it is about 1/2 inch from the bottom of the pickup tube.

How far is the pickup tube from the bottom of the tank? 1 or 2 inches?

If the hose is on the bottom it will suck up every last drop of water and crap in the tank first. Do yourself a favor and leave a one inch sump, it will do a good job of catching contaminates.

I would argue that it'd be a good idea not to have water and crap in the tank in the first place. I know I don't.

As an added benefit of having the pickups right above the bottom of the tank, getting water out of it after a sinking is much simpler.
