Super Jet Fuel/Carb problem

Have a stock superjet 61x/61x. Was struggling to get it started out of the water for awhile, realized I put the pump side back together wrong after doing a partial rebuild (mikuni diagrams arent the best for the newer style SBN44) and that was the reason it wasn't pulling fuel very well. When I finally got it to idle fine and rev out of the water, I went to test it in the lake. I should note that my airbox is a small plastic bin that may be slightly larger than the stock box.

Well I had trouble getting it started in the water, finally was able to get it idling after setting the low speed screw to just under 3 turns. However, when I went to take off from the hole it would die if I opened the throttle all the way. The only way to get up to higher rpm was by feathering the throttle until 2/3-3/4 open, then it was good to go and ran fine at the upper range.

How do I fix this? From what I've read it sounds like it could be the popoff or low speed jet. The seat o-ring is new. the low speed jet is partially broken, one side of the flathead part broke off, but I dont think this would have an affect. Another thing I noticed out of the water after starting is the carb makes a noise from the jetting side after killing the engine. Kind of a gurgling noise.

Found the gasket around the jets was small, so swapped it out and put it back on the ski. That was probably the noise I heard before. Unfortunately ski still wouldn't start unless I covered the intake completely.

since you got rid of the stock flame arrestor, your popoff needs be lowered to allow for the more air flow. and possibly go up in jet size. but it sounds like a classic too high of popoff issue.
