Front fork/shock

What do you guys recommend for a good front fork/shock setup on a MTB?

I have a diamondback Response sport and the front shock is crap. I mostly use the bike as a commuter to work, but I rode the woods this weekend and the shock really didn't like what I put it through.

I saw a lot of guys with fox shocks at the trails we ride, but i'm assuming those bikes are in the 1,500-2,500 dollar range.

Basically I'm looking for something better than what I've got but it doesn't need to be top of the line.

Are you looking for a new bike or front fork?

If your just looking for a front fork then look at a Rock Shox Tora SL. You most likely do not want to spend too much money.

Rock Shox Reba Team is what I run, very nice and adjustable too, but costs quite a bit. Most dual air forks are really nice, single air works well too if the dampener is good.

I'd find a RS Tora air on Ebay for under $200, beyond that I'd upgrade your whole bike to one that comes with a better fork stock.

I have always been a fan of Marzocci forks. Can't remember what models I have had, but have always been happy with the way they ride.

The bike is fine for me, Its the fork I need. Ive already had it warrantied cause the stock one was garbage, blew out the seals on the first ride. When I read reviews on the bike everyone suggested replacing the fork anyhow and I see why now.

Something under 200 is fine with me, I can always put the stocker back on and keep the new fork if I decide to get another bike. I'm just not looking to buy a fork that cost more than the bike.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check some of those out.

The REBA line is really nice, stiff and responds well to adjustments. I used to run a Team on my Epic, went to FOX when I got a new bike.

Rock Shox makes some affordable yet tough forks. My KHS has a SID Team on it, which is amazing. However, it's a $500 fork (got it for free on a warranty swap for a busted Tora! Woot!) I have a Fox on my current bike...it's pretty decent.

For a while Rock Shox went to crap, but in the past few years they have stepped their game back up. Rock Shox, Fox, and Magura are about the best now. Marzzocki's are good. Not sure what happened to Answer Manitou, but they just lost it.
