Super Jet footholds/hydroturf custom newb ?s

im going to try my first attempt at footholds and turffing. i've done tons of research and searched here and found some great help.

but i cant find any info on how to do undermat custom style cutouts before turffing. im talking about the foot shape curves by the footholds.
do you build it up in areas or to cut it down in others. i imagine its thicker undermat the entire tray then cut out the way you like. is that how you do it? kinda lost.

and anyone put under mat on the upper part of the footholds? i guess thats just a matter of patience and being upside down for a while.

appreciate any tips

Just use the 26mm plush underpading and maybe some of the 8mm on the top of the footholds. It depends on what foothold you have and do some trial and error with your riding shoes on. Or however you ride. Put your foot in the foothold and see how much room you have and how much padding you can fit in there. You want it snug you should be able to kick in and it doesnt want to come out.

To be honest, I'm not sure why you would add padding and then cut recessed areas out for your feet. I see it done a lot but then you have less padding below the foot. I woulda thought that if it was done that it would be the other way, thicker under the footholds and less in the tray, but in either case why do the cutouts at all? I know that some have told me they like how it puts the foot more in its own pocket and feels more secure, but if that's the case then put your desired underpaid down on the entire tray, take a piece of nylons rope and coat it with dap contact cement, let dry, then stand on your ski and lay the rope down outlining your foot. The rope will stick and then when you lay the final turf layer down use a rubber mallet to adhere it to the underpaid and the turf will contour over the rope and you will see outlines of your feet that would be custom to your foot shape and you would hAve thicker under pad. Just an idea, what do I know I ride surf stance hahah
