foam disolving

Does anyone know anything that will disolve the foam in the tray of a SJ?

Would rather not cut open my carbon reinforced tray and undo my footholds. I am pretty sure my tray has water in it. Gonna drill some holes soon to see if the foam feels wet or has water dripping out.

if there were a way to easily 'disolve' foam, people wouldnt be slicing, dicing and mincing their skis to rid the 'wales of saturated foam.

i think youre on to something, though. :wavey:

There is a way to dissolve the foam. It will be reduced down to about 5% of what it was. It won't harm the hull either.

Thing is, it is highly flammable. So much so that I won't even mention it so that no one gets hurt.

If someone in NJ needs to do this, I will be glad to show you how and with what. After that, if you decide to do it on your own, well that is you choice and don't look for me if something goes wrong. IE fire/explosion.

I have tried about everything and can't find anything to dissolve it. If there is then you would have a puddle of extremely thick gooey nastyness that needed to be removed from the hull. At least the water soaked foam can be vacuumed up with a shop vac when it is bored out with a wire wheel.

And you don't have to cut your tray open. If you have a scupper then you can wire wheel about 80% out through the exhaust and the scupper holes with a die grinder a couple 12 inch drill extensions and a wire cup brush. About a 2 hour job.

That's what I figured it's hard to disolve. I was going to pull my engine and thought I could drill some holes inside the hull and some holes on the rear and stand the ski up right and pour something in to disolve the foam and let it pour out the bottom.

I think I'll just do the defoam/dewater traditionally.

Couldn't find any info and what might dislovle the foam by searching.

I use to work with the stuff and njjer is the first to say it can be dissolved. What ever he is talking about has to be dangerous to work with if it will do what he says.

Yep. Suck it out the other side with the shop vac if you can.

Can you post what it contains. Not doubting you, just curious. Can't find a data sheet for it.

I know it works on Styrofoam as at work we spray each others cups and cause them to leak all over. Jokers or fools we are.

I also use it to play around with shop packs of sparkplugs. You know the kind, Styrofoam blocks that hold 50 plugs in a larger pack.

So who is going to try it first?

Ingredients Acetone and Toluene? Not a big deal. I wouldn't guess that would do it. But I will try some. I know that I have acetone at the shop. We'll see about the toluene. It is an substitute used to increase octane when going to the drag strip...LOL A gallon of that, change out the blower pulley and let er rip... Also pray for the best about 1/2 way down...

That is carb cleaner. That will work on Styrofoam (Acetone will rip through Styrofoam).
A B foam is different. Won't do a good job. Might make the surface a little soft.

Is all the foam the same in these PWC? Reason I ask is it does dissolve the old foam in my 'Blaster. Granted, my Blaster is like new in all manners. Maybe with age the foam becomes more brittle and the Gum Cutter will work on it?

When I get a chance I will get another pc of foam out of one of my other Blasters and try it again.

I know some sitdowns have Styrofoam in them. Not sure what is in a Blaster. Anyone know?? If that stuff dissolved it is probably Styrofoam.
