what would cause a flywheel bolt to back out? this happened 2 times in a row with one of my skis and i am so confused. i have never seen this before. the bolt backs out and gets stuck in the flywheel cover.

I agree . . . . and I would also suggest putting a big bead of Black RTV around the shank of the bolt near the head before installing it. Wipe off the excess that squeezes out after you torque it . . . . .

I would pull the flywheel, get some valve grinding compound, and lap the lap flywheel onto the spindle so you get good surface-surface contact.

Most likely, you have some high frequency vibration going on due to a slightly off fit and lapping it will fix that.

You can go up to 80 ft-lbs on the torque also! This is what I torque all of my motors to and never a problem, except a junk Riva alum charging flywheel, it cracked at the keyway spline. that's the only one and I got it used... so who knows maybe someone over-torqued it before?
